Mark Shelton Opposes Ending Rape Kit Backlog

Texas Tea Party Republican Mark Shelton is running for State Senate against Democrat Wendy Davis in SD-10. Rep. Shelton is one of the most extreme Republicans in the Legislature, going so far as to be one of only 8 Democrats or Republicans in the entire state to vote against Sen. Davis' SB 1636, better known as the "Rape Kit Bill."

Senator Davis authored SB 1636 - which passed into law and was signed by Governor Perry - to create "a timeline and structure for the collection and testing of sexual assault evidence." By helping eliminate the backlog of untested rape kits, law enforcement agencies are now empowered to bring rapists to justice who have evaded police for years.

Mark Shelton thought this was a terrible idea and voted against the bill.

Tea Party Republicans like Mark Shelton have cast numerous votes that jeopardize the health and safety of Texas women. We're doing our best to get the word out and educate voters about these issues and matters of public record. It's up to us to stop this Tea Party nonsense, and it will only happen if we make the truth and our voices heard.

We need your help encourage Texans to make their voice heard and vote this November or during Early Vote. Hundreds of thousands of Texans will vote this year, and it's essential that you join them and make your voice heard!
